Los Angeles is not exactly short of places to shop.
From Rodeo Drive and Melrose Avenue to huge shopping centres and independent boutiques, you can spend a small fortune in this city without much effort.

But if you would rather find designer names and big brands for less, it is worth getting out of central LA and heading to one of the region's outlet malls.
Some are only a short drive from Downtown, while others are worth turning into a full day out.
Here are five outlet malls near Los Angeles worth knowing about.
1. Citadel Outlets
If you do not want to spend half your day driving, Citadel Outlets is the obvious place to start.
Located in Commerce just southeast of Downtown LA, it is one of the most convenient major outlet centres for people living in the city.
The open-air shopping centre has a distinctive castle-like exterior and a large selection of outlet stores covering fashion, footwear, sportswear, accessories and more.
You will find names including Coach, Michael Kors, Nike Factory Store, Levi's, Tommy Hilfiger and plenty of other familiar brands.
Its location just off the I-5 also makes it relatively easy to reach from different parts of Los Angeles.
If you only have a few hours and want to squeeze in some outlet shopping, this is probably the most practical option.
2. Camarillo Premium Outlets
If you are prepared to drive further, Camarillo Premium Outlets is one of the biggest shopping destinations worth considering from Los Angeles.
It is around an hour northwest of the city in lighter traffic, just off Highway 101, and has more than 150 stores.
The outdoor layout makes it feel more like a shopping village than a traditional mall, with different sections connected by walkways.
There is a particularly broad mix of fashion, sportswear, footwear and designer brands, with stores including Nike Factory Store, Coach Outlet, Tory Burch, Michael Kors, BOSS Outlet and Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store.
The distance means it makes more sense as a proper shopping day rather than a quick trip.
You could also combine it with a drive towards Ventura or the Central Coast.

3. Ontario Mills
Ontario Mills is the one to choose if you want enormous rather than intimate.
Located east of Los Angeles in Ontario, this huge indoor shopping centre has more than 200 stores and combines outlet shopping with restaurants and entertainment.
The fact that it is indoors is a major advantage during the hotter months.
You can spend several hours shopping without walking between outdoor stores in the Southern California heat.
The line-up includes outlets and value retailers from brands such as Coach, Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Polo Ralph Lauren, Nike and Uniqlo.
There are also restaurants, a cinema and other entertainment options, so it is easy to turn the trip into an entire day.
If you are taking the family, Ontario Mills can be particularly useful because there is much more to do than simply shop.
4. Desert Hills Premium Outlets
This is the one for people who are specifically interested in designer shopping.
Desert Hills Premium Outlets is in Cabazon, roughly halfway between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, so it is considerably further away than Citadel.
But the luxury line-up is what makes it stand out.
The current directory includes brands such as Gucci, Prada, Fendi, Celine, Valentino, Christian Louboutin, Loewe and Brunello Cucinelli, alongside a wider selection of premium fashion and sportswear stores.
It is an outdoor centre, with the shops spread across a large site.
This is not somewhere I would drive to for a quick couple of purchases.
Instead, make a day of it or combine it with a trip towards Palm Springs.
And remember that outlet pricing can vary considerably between brands and individual products, so it is always worth checking what you are actually saving before getting carried away.
5. The Outlets at Orange
If you are heading towards Orange County, The Outlets at Orange is another major option.
It is particularly convenient if you are already visiting Anaheim or Disneyland, rather than making the journey from central LA purely to shop.
The open-air centre has more than 120 stores, including Saks OFF 5TH, Bloomingdale's The Outlet Store, Nordstrom Rack, Nike Factory Store, Levi's, Crocs, adidas and Steve Madden.
It is also more than just an outlet mall.
There are restaurants, entertainment options and other attractions around the centre, meaning people in your group do not necessarily have to spend the entire day browsing clothes racks.
Its location makes it a useful stop if you are combining shopping with a wider Orange County trip.
Which outlet mall should you visit?
It really depends on how far you want to travel.
For the easiest trip from Los Angeles, Citadel Outlets is the obvious choice because you can get there without committing an entire day to driving.
For a bigger outdoor shopping experience, Camarillo Premium Outlets gives you a huge selection and can easily become a day trip.
Ontario Mills is the option to remember when the weather is particularly hot because most of the shopping is indoors.
For luxury and designer brands, Desert Hills Premium Outlets is the furthest trip but has a particularly strong high-end line-up.
And if you are already heading towards Disneyland or Orange County, The Outlets at Orange makes much more sense than driving back into LA just to shop.
